Enniscorthy suffer defeat away to Genesis

Enniscorthy ladies first XI were eager to continue their good start to the season with their first away game in St Raphaela’s Stillorgan, where they took on Genesis 3s.

The visitors started the game with the tip off advantage. The home side also started out strong, eager to gain their first points in the league after a loss the previous week.

Enniscorthy were the first on the scoreboard in the first quarter. Skilful midfielder Ciara Kelly drove the ball up the right side of the pitch and down the baseline, meeting forward Martha Dunne in the circle. Dunne was unlucky with her first shot on goal but Deané Lodewyks was on standby for the rebound and flicked it past the goalkeeper and into the goal.

Genesis equalised in the second quarter with a penalty corner and a deflected shot from the top of the circle.

The Wexford side attempted to get one up again with lots of effort from midfielders Niamh Rochford and Leah Chapman. Ellen Creed also blocked a lot of the Genesis attack down the left side. Lodewyks was unlucky with her shots from play going just wide of the goal. The home side scooped another goal in the third quarter, making the score 2-1.

Enniscorthy were awarded a penalty corner in the last quarter, however the shot from Jessie Flood was just left of the goal, leaving the final score 2-1.
