Pembroke Wanderers 3
Enniscorthy 2
Enniscorthy’s men’s first XI traveled to Serpentine Avenue to take on Pembroke Wanderers in their second Division 4 game of the season on Saturday. Matches between the Slaneysiders and the Dublin 4 outfit are always good quality and this latest installment proved to be no exception.
As the match got going it proved to be another end to end encounter. Enniscorthy’s press proved to be working well in the opening stages, forcing the home side into their semi-circle. Indeed after just four minutes, Enniscorthy had the ball in the Pembroke net thanks to some neat penalty corner work. A precise push out from Aodhan O’Leary was switched to William Durnan on the left. His sweeping ball across goal found a touch off Rynhart’s stick and past the Pembroke goalkeeper.

The Dubliners were eager to find a reply and Hill was forced into a save on 23 minutes down to his right. The half time break seemed to work wonders for Pembroke, though, as they converted a penalty corner one minute after the restart. On 51 minutes they took the lead from another well-worked penalty corner routine, firing through a mass of bodies in the semi-circle.
Enniscorthy’s midfield triumvirate of Roy Chapman, Aodhán O’Leary and Ben Doyle worked hard to create chances for an equaliser and only four minutes later Charlie Dunne had found his fourth goal of the season, scoring from a cross from William Durnan.
The game was there for the taking but it was Pembroke who took advantage, winning a penalty corner with four minutes on the clock and finding a gap in the Enniscorthy defence to finish on a 3-2 scoreline.
Squad: Graham Hill, David Simmons, Glenn Chapman, Ivan Rothwell, Andrew Rothwell, Roy Chapman, Aodhán O’Leary, William Durnan, Ben Doyle, Charlie Dunne, Seb Rynhart, Leo Durnan. Manager Fraser Rothwell.
