It rained heavily over Blackwater this afternoon, but nobody cared, the community was rejoicing and celebrating at the news that Blackwater is Wexford’s Tidiest village announced today at the 61st Supervalu National Tidy Towns’ Awards ceremony held in The Helix, Dublin.
Blackwater (332) gained 13 marks on last years total to take the 2019 prize, closely followed by last year’s winners’ Rosslare (331), with Duncormick (323), Bree (321), Clonroche (321) and Enniscorthy (319) in the chasing bunch.
Summing up the winning Blackwater entry, the adjudicator’s report said; “Blackwater is a uniquely beautiful village and has much to offer the visitor and it is no surprise that it has developed into an important visitor/tourist destination in Wexford in recent years.
“A renewed and strong Tidy Towns voice and presence in Blackwater with a focus on the development of a greater number of new projects and initiatives will foster improved community involvement in Tidy Towns and will help guide future improvements in a sustainable and considered way. You are wished well with your future endeavours.”
Rosslare were awarded a Silver Medal and €700, Blackwater received a Bronze Medal and €400, as did Enniscorthy and Gorey.
