Gorey St Patrick’s Day Parade are calling on Wexford County Council to step in and arrange a public meeting to plan for the future of the parade after four of the five members confirmed their retirement from the committee at the annual general meeting.
Sean Halford, Dermot Maguire, Maeve Fitzpatrick and Claire Urquhart who at different times have served the parade during its 40 years are to step down.
The organisation of an event like Gorey’s parade has become more complicated and demanding over the years and this very small committee now needs new blood to continue to make the Gorey Parade the success it is.
Having reached out to Wexford County Council last year additional support was made available. However, due to the personal responsibility and commitment that’s needed from the committee members they feel with regret their time has come to step down.
They are calling on Wexford County Council to step in and arrange a public meeting to plan for the future of the parade.
Sincere thanks were given to the loyal sponsors, entrants and Gorey people who have been vital in making the Gorey Parade such a wonderful event. All those people are now urged to get involved.
