The historical coastal village of Carrig-on-Bannow is hosting the 28th annual Phil Murphy Weekend with concerts, workshops, ceilí, trad sessions and an overall atmosphere of top-class traditional musical entertainment for all the family.

The music, culture and heritage will be celebrated with vigour as Carrig-on-Bannow is less than two miles from, Cullenstown Beach and close to Bannow Bay where the Normans first landed in 1169 – 850 years ago and an event being celebrated across Ireland’s Ancient East.

The three-day festival of music, song, dance and storytelling is organised by Bannow Folk and Traditional Society and opens on Friday at 8 pm with Green Road performing in the Festival Marquee.

Dervish, one of the best known groups, who has been bringing Irish traditional music across the world for more than 25 years, are the top act at the Festival Club Marquee on Saturday night. However, much interest will surround the appearance of Hollywood actor and performer Patrick Bergin, best known for his part in the film Sleeping with the Enemy, who will be displaying his musical side with the Dominic St. Ramblers.

No Irish traditional band in the last dozen years has had a wider impact on audiences and music lovers worldwide tha Altan, and they are the star act at the Closing Concert in the marquee on Sunday night. They will be on the bill with Catherine Craig and Brian Willoughby.
