101 community groups get €150,000 in Grant Aid

Wexford Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) on behalf of the Department of Rural and Community Development celebrated the allocation of funding of €150,000 to 101 community groups under the Community Enhancement Programme (CEP) 2019 at a presentation event in County Hall, Wexford, this afternoon.

Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, Cllr Michael Sheehan, paid tribute to all local community groups and associations across County Wexford and commended them on their continuing efforts to improve their local areas. Cllr Sheehan added that he hoped that this funding would allow community groups to continue the invaluable work they do on behalf of others in local areas throughout the county.

The Programme is administered by Wexford County Council’s Community Department on behalf of Wexford LCDC., with funding available under the following measures:

MEASURE 1; A total fund of €100,000 was available to support the enhancement of communities through small scale capital grants. The recipients are as follows; BRIDGEMEADOW RESIDENCE ASSOCIATION (€1,000 – installation of CCTV). MEASURE 2: An additional fund of €50,000 was made available to support climate change reduction and mitigation measures. The recipients are as follows; GLYNN BARNTOWN ALL COMMUNITY FITNESS AND WELL-BEING CENTRE (€3,000 – to create a multi-purpose sports, fitness and well-being facilitty by reviving a redundant handball alley). OUR LADY’S ISLAND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMPANY (€3,000 – insulate the ceiling in the main hall in the community centre). GOREY TIDY TOWNS – Project 2 (€3,000 – installation of a water station in the town centre). RIVERCHAPEL TIDY TOWNS – Project 2 (€1,700 – creation of an eco friendly bio-diversity area). LOLLITOTS COMMUNITY CHILDCARE CLG (€3,000 – energy efficient upgrade, upgrading and replacement of existing air to water heat pumps eliminating use of oil heating).
