Thirteen years old Marshalstown boxer, Caoimhe Kinsella, who is a star member of the Ireland team, will fly to Tbilisi, Georgia, a crossroads location between Europe and Asia, tomorrow (Thursday) for participation in the European Championships which commence next Sunday.
Caoimhe learned her ring skills at St. Anthony’s – St. Patrick’s Boxing Club at Enniscorthy, and is the only Wexford sportsperson on the 32-person mixed team of 20 boys 12 girls, junior cadets aged 12 and 13 years.
She won her Irish championship and her cadet championship this year. After winning her cadets she was asked to train at the high performance unit in Dublin’s National Stadium Dublin.
She was then picked to go to the European Championships in Tbilisi. She boxed in her first international against Italy two weeks ago and won. She was then on a training camp in Dundalk for five days and arrived home on Monday.
She will be flown out with the Ireland team to compete in the European Schoolboys-girls Championships in Tbilisi and the first boxers take to the ring on Sunday, August 4th. We wish Caoimhe and the Ireland team the very best of luck and look forward to some medals coming home.
