Last yer a giant Ferris wheel brought a carnival atmosphere to the annual Enniscorthy Rockin Food Festival and this year they have an even bigger wheel – it appeared on the skyline today above the River Slaney and close to the Rafter Bridge.
Speaking to WexfordToday.com, Eric Barron, Festival Chairman, acknowledged the tremendous success of the 2018 award-winning festival, and said; “The 2019 festival programme is full of new and exciting events and activities for all the family and we are delighted to host the event over four days – yes, we have a lot of activities happening on Bank Holiday Monday – and we want people to come to Enniscorthy in big numbers and have an enjoyable time.”
Over 80 vendors will host the much loved Artisan Food and Craft Market and take over the streets. There is also a brand new schedule of free cookery demonstrations, tastings and health and wellness talks in the Food Marquee and a range of food fringe events and farm visits.
There is endless rock ‘n’ roll talent with over 30 free gigs in 14 venues across the town. There is an outdoor main stage and dance floor in Market Square for jamming throughout the weekend creating a buzzing atmosphere throughout Enniscorthy.
Enniscorthy District Manager, Liz Hore, speaking to WexfordToday.com wants Enniscorthy to be packed over the August Bank Holiday weekland and she recommends so much, especially an experience on the Big Wheel or a leisurely trip on the steam train which will bring carriage loads from Dublin to Enniscorthy, but there is also a chance for locals to travel steam style return to Wexford.
“Enniscorthy Arts Trail is a new and exciting festival promoting the arts within the historic town of Enniscorthy and there are opportunities to catch a range of pop-up galleries, performances and workshops across the town,” said Ms. Hore, who added; “Don’t forget we are celebrating the 850th anniversary of the arrival of the Normans and there are events happening at Enniscorthy Castle. Look out for the Norman names posted up around the town!”
