Treble on as U-20 hurlers reach Leinster final

Wexford’s secured a 5 point victory over Offaly in the Bord Gais Energy Leinster Under-20 Hurling Championship semi-final at Bord na Mona O’Connor Park on Wednesday evening.

Wexford supporters travelled again in numbers; the crowd of 5,172 ensured that the throw in was put back 15 minutes. Wexford will now meet Galway or Kilkenny, they meet in the other semi-final.

Wexford’s lead was cut to a point in the final minute, but a tense spell saw Diarmuid Doyle’s late goal seal a 5 point victory to keep the treble very much on target; 1970 was the last time that feat was achieved.

Wexford had a 4 point lead at half time, this despite shooting nine wides, 1-08 to 0-07. Wexford sharp shooter Ross Banville was responsible for 10 points, seven from placed ball, in all 10 of the players got on the scoreboard.
