Irish Water plans for ‘Three Sisters’

The Three Sisters estuary at Duncannon Fort.

Irish Water has announced plans to end discharge of untreated wastewater into the Three Sisters (rivers Barrow, Nore and Suir) estuary off the south-west Wexford coast.
Wexford TD James Browne has welcomed news that Irish Water plans to end the discharge of untreated wastewater from the coastal area around Arthurstown, Ballyhack, and Duncannon.
“This has been a cause of great concern for some time now. I’m glad to learn that this practice of discharging the equivalent of 2,300 wheelie bins of untreated wastewater into the estuary will cease.
“I understand that construction of the new treatment plant is expected to get underway later this year with completion by 2021. It’s vital that this project can be constructed as soon as possible”, Deputy Browne concluded.
