Wexford hurlers need emphatic victory against Carlow minnows

The Wexford Senior hurlers take on Carlow this evening in Innovate Wexford Park at 7pm. With two draws in the bag, in the opening rounds of the Leinster Championship against Dublin and Galway, nothing less than an emphatic victory will be acceptable in tonight’s game.

Carlow have suffered two heavy defeats in both their championship outings to date, Kilkenny handed them a 14 point trouncing in the opening round and they suffered a 12 point loss to a 14 man Dublin outfit last Sunday.

To put things into perspective, Paddy Power install Wexford at 1/50, Carlow are priced up at 14/1 and you can back a draw at 33/1. Should you want to back the home team in the handicap betting market, Wexford are 10/11 with minus 12 points. We should well see a goal feast, Conor McDonald is 7/1 in the first goal scorer, closely followed by his fellow clubman, Cathal Dunbar at 15/2, and Rory O’Connor is chalked up at 9/1.

The result of tonight’s game should not be in doubt, but many observers will be looking for an improvement in team’s performance; Davy Fitzgerald’s tactics have come in for lots of criticism in this year’s campaign to date.
