Rosslare RNLI Lifeboat was launched at 11.30 pm on Wednesday night to assist an overdue yacht en route to the Channel Islands.
The Coast Guard requested Rosslare lifeboat crew to check on the yacht which was picked up 20 miles east of Tuskar Rock lighthouse.
On arrival at the scene the it was discovered that the yacht had lost power and the lone yachtsman was steadily making his way south.
The decision was taken to take the yacht under tow into Rosslare Europort. Rosslare RNLI under Coxswain Eamon O’Rourke brought the yacht into the port at 4.30 am on Thursday morning. Weather on scene was described as moderate with westerly wind.
Commenting on the callout Rosslare RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager David Maloney said; “It is always better to be safe than sorry and in this case we were able to assist a lone yachtsman who was in difficulty. It was a long night for the crew but a good result.”
