Members of the Garda Sub-Aqua Unit will arrive at Kilmore Quay on Monday morning following the discovery of a jeep at the bottom of a slipway earlier today.
It is unknown if there is a body in the submerged vehicle, but locals are confident the jeep belongs to an 89 years old local man who has been missing since January 4th 2018.
The discovery of the missing man would bring closure to family members and the local community after a 15-month search to date.
Local knowledge suggests that the jeep was in silted waters, but could not have been there too long as the marina is constantly used by boating traffic and the most likely scenario is that it may have gone out to sea and was washed back by recent storms or strong currents.
Local Gardai and Kilmore Quay Lifeboat are at the scene.
