The 2019 Horse Sport Ireland Stallion Selections took place over two days on Wednesday and Thursday this week in Cavan Equestrian Centre. In total thirty-three stallions were presented for inspection, fifteen Irish Sport Horse stallions, fourteen Irish Draught stallions, three Thoroughbreds and one pony stallion.
Wexford interest centred on Rita Coughlin’s, Columcille Diamond Boy (ID C1), a 7yo stallion by Grange Bouncer (IDC1), out of the Classic Vision (IDC1) mare, Derrynagarra Sibyl. He was one of only four Irish Draught stallions to achieve Class 1 status, and also received a bronze merit award.
President Z (ZANG), a 4yo stallion by Pino (KWPN), out of the VDL Arkansas (KWPN) mare, TK Macs (ISH), owned by David O’Donnell and ridden by Michelle Kenny, passed stage 1 in the Irish Sport Horse section on Wednesday, but unfortunately did not find approval in stage 2 of the process on Thursday.
