Enniscorthy’s ladies second XI had a crucial final game of their Leinster Division 12 campaign on Saturday, as they faced UCD 8ths at the Astro Active Centre. Enniscorthy lay in second position and needed a victory to ensure promotion.
Enniscorthy started off very strongly with great play by midfielders Eleanor Bolger and Laura Redmond. A great pass into the circle found Megan Dempsey who scored the opening score for the hosts.
Enniscorthy continued to threaten UCD, winning a penalty corner. There was great play by Alice Kelly and Olive Lett in the circle. However the ball went wide. In the last play of the first half Enniscorthy won another penalty corner. With great play from Ciara Parnell and Ciara Yates the ball eventually found Muireann Ní Corcrain who hit it into the net. Unfortunately the ball took a high deflection and didn’t hit the back board so it was disallowed.
The second half was tense but competitive  with great defensive play from Áine O’Brien, Ellen Creed and Amy Dalton. Great play in the forwards found Orla Sinnott with an open chance on goal but dramatically she hit the post. In the last 7 minutes UCD drew level after a great save from Alice Medcalf.
The tempo and intensity doubled as Enniscorthy needed a win to secure promotion. A great clearance from Olive Lett found Hannah Sweeney who passed to Alice Kelly who scored a great goal  in the last minutes to secure a 2-1 victory.
