Enniscorthy 1
Portrane 0
A cold Saturday afternoon saw Enniscorthy Ladies 2nds host Portrane 2nds in Division 12 of the Leinster League, in what proved to be a tough, top of the table encounter.
Enniscorthy started strongly in the opening half with great defensive play from the back line.
Numerous efforts from Amy Murphy at the base line to Eimear Doyle at the top of the circle saw Enniscorthy unlucky not to capitalise. Strong defensive play from both sides saw the teams at deadlocked at the break.
Enniscorthy bounced back after half time with an abundance of determination. Excellent play up the right wing by Dalton, Parnell and Yates created multiple chances for the Slaneysiders. A number of penalty corners were created but without success.
The last ten minutes were crucial, with both sides desperate to find the back of the net. And it was the home side who found that opening, a pass from the experienced Lett to Redmond in the circle found the back of the net for Enniscorthy, making the score 1-0. Enniscorthy defended well through the final few minutes to see the match through. This result puts the team in second place in Division 12 of the Leinster League, though third-placed Bray now have two games in hand with a four point gap to the county Wicklow side.
