Two men arrested following Gorey raid

Gardai have arrested two men as part of Operation Thor following a number of overnight burglaries in Wicklow and Wexford, including a raid on the Cirkle K filling station on the Arklow Road in Gorey.
Shortly after 2 am a number of men forced their way into a filling station in Gorey town. Cigarettes along with an undisclosed sum of cash were taken.
A short time later convenience stores in the Wicklow villages of Redcross and Rathnew were burgled.
The eir phone shop on Wicklow town’s Main Street was raided and damaged for the second time in five days having been targetted last Friday. Gardai apprehended the raiders following a chase.
Sums of cash along with cigarettes and mobile phones were taken during the raids.
During a follow-up operation involving Gardaí attached to Special Crime Operations, Dublin-based Garda Units and the Garda Air Support Unit a car was intercepted in the Bawnogue area of west Dublin.
Two men aged in their 20s were arrested at the scene following a chase on foot. Both men are currently detained at Wicklow Garda Station.
Around 10.30 am on Monday morning armed men stormed into Bridgetown Post Office in south Wexford. The made their escape in a car believed to be travelling in the direction of Kilmore.
It is not known if the incidents are linked. An investigation is continuing.
