Veteran Wexford jockey Jamie Codd returned to action following a month’s absence with injury at Tyrella in East Down today and he confirmed his fitness with a fine double.
On his return he had ‘a distance’ victory on Whatsupwithyou for owner and trainer, Denis Murphy, Ballyboy Stables, The Ballagh, in the maiden race for five year old geldings.
Codd was aboard the Gordon Elliott trained Kruzhlinn who had a dozen lengths to spare in the Open Lightweight Race. It was his 15th winner of the current point-to-point season.
Runner-up to Kruzhlinn was Donnchadh Doyle’s Art of Logistics ridden by Rob James who had a terrfic ride aboard Alpha Des Obeaux when finishing behind Ruby Walsh and Invitation Only in last Thursday’s Goffs Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park.
Blackwater-based Harley Dunne also notched up a double and brought his seasonal total to seven.
Four out of the five runners in the maiden race for five year old mares were Wexford trained and there was a 15 lengths success for Achey Breaky Heart, owned and trained by Blackwater handler Shane Byrne.
Colin Bowe’s Alice O’Byrne (Barry O’Neill up) and Donnchadh Doyle’s Madera Mist (Rob James) filled the minor placings.
Harley Dunne’s second success of the day came in the Winner of Two Race when he partnered Lisnagreggan for Antrim handler William Gault.
