Last Saturday saw Gorey at home to Botanic in their latest League match.
Gorey took push back and made a couple of good of runs up their wings with a couple of shots going narrowly wide. On the third attempt Muireann Deegan dribbled up the right side to the end line and slipped the ball back to Sarah Merrigan who took a shot. Zoe Kenny was at the far post to slot it home giving Gorey an early lead (1-0).
Botanic restarted and made some runs up the middle. Losing posession at the halfway line, Gorey took advantage with Sarah Merrigan placing the pass to Muireann Deegan who was on hand to double Goreys’ lead (2-0).
Botanic started the second half stonger winning a number of frees. Gorey then applied pressure and won posession, their reward a brace of penalty corners. Direct from the training ground, Gorey’s set piece was working well. Gorey’s Robyn Swords sent the ball to the top of the circle, where it was flicked right for Muireann Deegan whose strike was stopped. Botanic was slow to clear and Odile Evans swept the ball into goal making it 3 Nil to Gorey.
Botanic took the restart once more but Gorey were too strong for the visitors and the ball entered their circle one more time. A couple of saves from Botanic’s keeper kept Gorey out. Minutes later Ailbhe Booth was on the end of a rebound and took a shot. (4-0).
