History, heritage and local happenings, past and present, has found its way into the 10th annual Blackwater Parish Journal which was officially launched by Ernie Shepherd in the Blackwater Lodge Hotel on Saturday night.
Mr Shepherd, author of many books on the Irish railways and his most recent volume was the history of Wexford Harbour Commissioners, who lives locally, praised the journal and complimented the editorial committee on a fine publication.
Senan Lillis, a history teacher for 37 years, and a contributor to the latest journal, spoke of the importance of history and its preservation from future generations and the pressure on history from changes in society and the growing popularity of social media.
There were also contributions from other contributors, Dr Aoife Whelan from the School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore, at University College Dublin, and John Breen, who normally contributes on local maritime matters and the schools manuscript project.
Cllr Oliver Walsh acted as master of ceremonies and there was a good attendance who were treated to light refreshments.
The Blackwater Parish Journal editor is Rita Carroll and the committee consists of Caitlín Uí Bhriain, Margaret Mythen, Declan Flanagan and Frank Cullen. The publication is on sale locally.
