€256,000 in funding for 8 Wexford sports clubs

Over €256,000 in funding will greatly benefit sports clubs across Wexford over the coming year following successful applications under the Sports Capital Projects (SCP) announced by Minister of State with special responsibility for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin and Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross.
Minister Michael D’Arcy, TD, told WexfordToday.com; “I am delighted to see this much needed funding going to the places it will really make a big difference, our local sports clubs.
“This funding will benefit eight clubs in Wexford. Active engagement in sports not only helps keep young people healthy, but also builds confidence, independence and promotes team building.
The Wexford projects to benefit are…
Gorey Rugby Football Club €38,800.
Horeswood GAA Club €9,200.
Kilmore Utd Soccer Club €10,000.
Marshalstown-Castledockrell GAA Club €17,500.
Naomh Eanna GAA Club, Gorey, €55,800.
New Ross Swimming Club €6,500.
St. Patrick’s Squash Club €62,900.
Wexford Albion Schoolboys FC €55,300.
The grants announced today represent the first set of allocations under the 2018 round of the SCP and relate to projects previously deemed invalid under the 2017 round of the programme which have now been corrected.
“The Sports Capital Programme was re-instated by the last Fine Gael government in 2012, after it had been cut by Fianna Fáil in the wake of the economic crash,” said Minister D’Arcy, who added: “It represents an excellent value for money investment. It is crucial we invest in sport and the health of our population, particularly with obesity on the rise.
