Unidentified Ferns body that of a lady who lived in Gorey.

The scene at Ballyandrew, Ferns, where skeletal remains were discovered on Monday morning.

Gardaí are making progress in identifying the skeletal remains of a female body found in a ditch at Ballyandrew, about three miles from Ferns on the road to Kilrush, last Monday morning.
Wexford Today.com has learned that the woman lived in Gorey under a false name and was known in the Clonattin area of the town where she rented property during 2018.
She pretended to be Italian in character, but it is believed she was from England.
She was known to the owner of the property and left Gorey after she ceased to pay the rent.
The remains were discovered by a woman out walking her dog at 11.30 am and a section of the rural roadway was closed to traffic until the remains were removed 24-hours later on Tuesday morning.
Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Linda Mulligan, performed a post mortem at University Hospital Waterford on Tuesday, and it is believed that the woman had not suffered any trauma of injury as a result of foul play.
Gardaí are still trying to establish the woman’s identity and may have to obtain dental records to confirm the woman’s identity as the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition.
In a statement on Tuesday evening Gardaí said; “It has been established that the body is that of a female in her 50s and has been there for approximately 12 months. Further toxicology tests results are awaited but there is nothing at this stage to indicate any suspicious circumstances. Investigations, including DNA tests are ongoing to confirm the identity of the body”.
Investigations are continuing and any person with information is asked to contact Enniscorthy Garda Station on 053 9242580, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
