Confusion reigns at Hotel Rosslare, recently sold for €480,000 to a consortium with a base in Monaghan, concerning its future as a family hotel or as a temporary home for asylum seekers, or both, and the local residents are restless.
It is already alleged that upwards of 2o refugees were accommodated in the hotel on the first weekend it re-opened for business having been closed since September.
A public meting scheduled for the Railway Social Club recently was abandoned when it appears that local fears were allayed.
On Wednesday night, the owners of the hotel represented by John McEnaney, put forward a proposal to over 200 residents to house up to 40 asylum seekers in temporary accommodation.
There was a lot of disagreement and discontent from 75% of those in attendance and so the business owners have stated they will not be pursuing this plan and “will have to make the hotel work as a business and 100% will not now use Hotel Rosslare as temporary accommodation.”
There has been no reply from the Department of Justice.
WexfordToday.com has come to the conclusion that the future plans for the hotel is to operate in normal hospitality fashion on a daily and weekly bases and simultaneously operate as an over-flow or emergency accommodation centre when the need arises.
