The Oulart-The Ballagh AGM, on Friday night, confirmed the worst kept secret in Wexford GAA, as Liam Dunne was appointed the senior club hurling manager for the coming season, he is joined by Brendan O’Connor, and his brother Sean, as selectors.
The Oulart club narrowly avoided a relegation play off following their round five defeat to Rathnure in the Pettitt’s senior hurling championship, and Dunne was widely tipped to replace Andy Moloney.
As a player, Dunne is widely regarded as one of Wexford’s greatest hurlers of all time. During his playing days he won three All-Star awards, an All-Ireland in 1996, as well as two Leinster titles.
As a manager, Liam led Oulart-The Ballagh to three successive Wexford titles from 2009-2011, but lost out to O Loughlin Gaels and Coolderry in the Leinster club championship finals 2010 and 2011, he was appointed Wexford manager in 2011, was at the helm for five seasons, and the Oulart man is seen as responsible for the team that Davy Fitzgerald inherited. He spent the last two seasons in Dublin with Ballinteer.
