The cast and crew of Carnew Musical Society are putting the polishing touches on their 52nd production, My Fair Lady based on Pygmalion by George B. Shaw, book and lyrics – Lerner and Loewe – and the show will be performed in St. Brigid’s Hall, Carnew from Monday, November 26th to Saturday, December 1st.
The society previously performed My Fair Lady back in 1994 with society stalwart and Honorary Life Member, Sean Hallahan playing the part of Henry Higgins. In the 2018 production, Sean will play the part of Pickering marking his 50th show with the society. What an achievement!
Two new faces come to the Carnew stage for this production with Joanne Logue playing the part of Eliza Doolittle and Rory Robinson playing the part of Henry Higgins.

Regulars on the Carnew stage, John Young and Jennifer Byrne, both of whom have received AIMS acting nominations in recent years, will play the parts of Alfred P. Doolittle and Mrs. Higgins. Society secretary, Mandie O’Keeffe plays the role of Mrs. Pearce while Eileen Tormey McCabe plays Mrs. Eynesford-Hill and Malcolm Byrne plays Professor Zoltan Karpathy. AIMS Best Male Singer from 2009, Pádraig D’Arcy, will play the role of Freddy Eynesford-Hill and the double act of Harry and Jamie will be played by Paul Doran and Jimmy Spellacy.
In addition, the bartender will be played by Denis Howell and Mrs. Hopkins by Mary Doran.
Michael Dunbar, a long-time member of the Carnew Musical Society family once again takes on the role of Director and they welcome back the Honorary Life Member, Lar Duffy as Musical Director after taking a year out last year.
Frances Ryan who joins the show for the first time this year in the role of Choreographer has endeared herself to all with her good humour and patience in teaching the energetic dance moves for the show.
Vital to the production are the backstage crew who include Set Designer, Tony Barry, Set Construction crew led by Lar Duffy and Stage Manager Tommy Kavanagh.
The huge costuming will be undertaken by Jacinta Kavanagh and her crew, hair and make-up by Marion O’Toole and crew and the lighting expert is Kevin McEvoy.
Getting ready to welcome all patrons to St. Bridget’s Hall for the show is the recently elected President, Debbie Furlong, who is our Front of House Manager.
The hand painted road signage which can be seen on all approach roads to Carnew are the artistry of Denis and Louise Fox.
At the helm, organising all aspects of the show is a hardworking committee under the leadership of Chairman, Lorna Doran McEvoy.
The cost of staging musicals is very high and Carnew Musical Society’s ability to stage high quality musicals is due to the continued support of local businesses and patrons for their sponsorship and patronage. All support is very much appreciated.
