Launch of the Blackwater Song Project

A new song project called By Land and Sea, comprising of traditional song, poetry, ballads and recitation relating to the Blackwater coastal area and its immediate environs, will be sourced, researched, explored and performed, and is kicking off with an Information Evening in the Blackwater Lodge Hotel on Wednesday night at 8 pm.
Cllr Oliver Walsh will launch the project and it will be facilitated by traditional singer Aileen Lambert in association with the Wayside Players, Blackwater, with the support of Wexford County Council via the Creative Communities Programme.
Singers Aileen Lambert and Senan Lillis will give a presentation on songs/recitations and sources already identified and it is hoped that new material may come to light on this evening and throughout the project – all contributions would be most welcome.
As Aileen also has experience composing new airs the project would also be interested in any recitations or verse written locally which could be adapted to become a song.
Participants do not necessarily need to be singers, or indeed sing at all – if having an interest in the project everyone is most welcome, as there will be roles for researchers and work in compiling lyrics, photos and background to the songs.
Participants will meet fortnightly, on Monday nights from 8 pm to 9.30 pm, to research material as well as sing the songs.
The project will culminate with the production of a publication of Blackwater songs with an accompanying CD of local singers entitled By Land and Sea, which will be launched at a concert in April 2019.
If you would like to find out more or get involved you can contact Senan Lillis, Wayside Players, Blackwater on 086 1681429.
