Sunday’s point-to-point action took place at Dowth Hall, near Slane in Co. Meath, where Monageer handler Michael Goff supplied the three lengths winner of the maiden race for four year old geldings with Clondaw Hollow ridden by Shane Fitzgerald, who recorded a double victory.
Clondaw Hollow was folowed home by Up The Straight and Rob James up for Donnchadh Doyle and the Monbeg Partnership.
Barry O’Neill finished the weekend one ahead of Rob James in the riders’ championship on Jasper Bear for Fermanagh trainer David Christie by two and a half lengths in the mares’ maiden for five year olds and upwards.
Jamie Codd had a winner too! He partnered Smooth Spoon to a two and a half lengths success for Richard Brabazon of castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, in the ‘older’ geldings’ maiden race.
Point-to-point next Sunday is at Kilkenny over a new track at Damma House, on the edge of the city at Ballycallan, and a strong Wexford entry is anticipated.
