David Burke is the new President of New Ross RFC succeeding Michael Bailey who oversaw a very successful period in the club history with one of its graduates, Tadhg Furlong, going on to greater things with Leinster, Ireland and the British and Irish Lions.

DAVID BURKE new President of New Ross RFC.
While David will be known to many in sporting and theatrical circles, some of you may not know much about him. Consequently, our correspondent caught up with him earlier this week to find out a little more about the man who will now be the public face of the newly crowned Sports Club of the Year.
Kilkenny born and reared and while hurling is his first love rugby comes a close second.
David attended Johnstown Vocational School for his formative education where he captained the senior hurling team to All-Ireland school’s glory. He went on to Waterford Regional College where He got a degree in business and sport management and fitted in three Colleges All-Ireland victories along the way.
Married to Rosemary, with whom he has a daughter Grainne, and three sons Declan, Kevin and Eanna, all of whom have played with the Barrowside club from minis to adulthood.
He has played for NRRFC at 1sts, 2nds and seniors and has served on numerous committees and has even been known to make an appearance at the odd BBQ.
David thinks the future of rugby in New Ross is bright with the club having expanded its ladies’ section to include a full under-age structure as well as the growing success of the Dunbrody Warriors inclusive tag rugby team. David notes that the Warriors now also train in the club on a Sunday morning and that they would be delighted to see new members coming along to give it a try!
