It is difficult to believe that ground conditions would require irrigation and summer-type husbandry at the end of October, but that is the position at Bettyville Park where the first of the two-day Bank Holiday fixture takes place on Sunday.
The official prediction is for good (selected watering) ground, and the skies overhead are not threatening, however, it is good advice to wrap up well as cold conditions are a certainty!
It is an eight-race card with the first off at 12.20 pm (don’t forget to put the clock back on hour at 2 am) and the main sponsor for the afternoon is Casey Enterprises, Coolishall, Gorey.
Champion trainer Willie Mullins has a few runners, but he should get a winner on the board in the first race with the Paul Townend ridden Panther Soul, who is the overnight odds-on favourite.
Arthur Moore doesn’t bring that many horses to Wexford anymore, however, he has a superb record in chases and should add to his tally with Gentleman Duke in the handicap chase and the fact that yesterday’s Cheltenham winning jockey and veteran, Barry Geraghty will turn up for the ride is a massive vote of confidence in his chances.
The bumper has the challenge of Willie Mullins’ Miss Chevious Girl, with Patrick in the saddle, Paul Nolan has a newcomer in Positive Outlook, but Waterford’s Shay Barry could be the one to follow at generous odds with That’s My Dubai.
A day at the races is always a good day out! Don’t miss the Wexford races tomorrow! Admission is t miss the Wexford races tomorrow! Admission is €15; OAPs and Students €10; Children under 14 go free!
