RAILWAY UNION 1 ENNISCORTHY 0
Enniscorthy’s men’s second XI fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Railway Union. The Dublin side started the brighter, but it was Enniscorthy’s Graeme Chapman who had the first clear-cut chance of the game, his effort going narrowly wide after twenty minutes.
Level at the break, goalkeeper Glenn Rothwell was called into action early in the second half as Railway pressed forward; an Enniscorthy counter resulted in a penalty corner which agonisingly hit the post before going side.
In what was quickly becoming a match filled with counter – Attacking hockey, Railway then moved upfield and hit the ball wide. A Railway penalty corner effort was then well saved by Rothwell – as was the rebound – before work from Billy James and Mick Jordan cleared the Wexfordmen’s lines.
In an end to end encounter, Rothwell was called into action time after time, before Railway took the lead with twenty minutes left on the clock, one they never lost. Both sides had their chances in what was an enthralling encounter.
Squad: Glenn Rothwell, Clive Rothwell, Mick Jordan, David Mulligan, Nigel Bailey, Niall Maguire, Cian Hogan, Alan Smith, Billy James, Graeme Chapman, Eamonn Sweeney, Robbie Walshe, Mark Ennett, Jack Doran.
