GOREY 42 BOYNE 07
Gorey J2’s were away to Boyne last Saturday and came away emphatic winners on a score of 42 – 7. Though the final score line suggests an easy passage it was anything but, as Boyne were well in the contest 15 minutes into the second half.
Gorey opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Darragh O’Leary crossed after consistent pressure finally paid off. Morne Kemp added the conversion.
In the 20th a Morne Kemp penalty from just inside the halfway line extended Gorey’s lead.
Gorey were going well at this stage and it was no surprise when Morne Kemp added another try.
Kemp added another penalty on 33 minutes to take the score to 19 -0.
On the 40th minute Boyne responded with a sensational try with a breakaway from their own 22 saw them go between the posts and add the conversion to leave the score 19 – 7.
Within minutes of the restart Gorey opted to kick for the corner the resulting maul saw Barry O’Connor touch down.
Boyne left fighting and could have added to their tally but for a resolute Gorey defence.
With 15 minutes left on the clock Willie Rothwell added try number four with a quick turn of pace from 35 metres out.
Gorey were now out of touch and a further two tries from Mikey Duke with a Morne Kemp touchdown sealed the victory for the visitors.
Gorey had some big performances in the pack with Willie Rothwell, Daragh O’Leary the pick. Morne Kemp, Arron Davis and Mikey Duke showed well in the backs.
