Details have been announced about WexSci, the new Wexford Science Festival, building on a smaller event last year, that aims to promote science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) in 2018.
Taking place on the week of November 11-18th, the festival is led by Wexford County Council in partnership with IT Carlow, WIT, Waterford WEexford ETB, EPA, BIM and funded by SFI.
A weeklong innovative festival is promised, with many events, in libraries, community and family resource centres, in schools and colleges and for the Science Showcase at The Street, Wexford County Council, Carricklawn, Wexford.
Events will be fun and engaging, there will be something to interest people of all ages and knowledge.
Wexford has been identified by research from SFI as a low intervention county in terms of STEM participation. Plans are afoot to develop a festival programme to stimulate interest and debate about STEM.
The aim at WexSci is to encourage people to engage with science in a fun and interactive way. It is for the amateur and the professional, the curious and all wishing to follow a career in science.
Hope is to engage and inspire people of all ages, and to promote awareness and understanding of the importance and relevance of STEM to everyday life.
There are opportunities all week for you to experience STEM in a hands-on way, to learn how to be a laboratory technician, engineer, sports scientist, marine biologist, agronomist, immunologist, environmentalist, computer scientist, energy conservator and much more.
The highlight of the week is the STEM Showcase, an open day for all on Saturday, November 17th from 10.45 am to 4 pm.
Everyone is invited to visit the shows and explore the many science stands and interactive demonstrations in the WexSci Science Showcase at Wexford County Council, Carricklawn, Wexford.
