Patrick Byrne & Whispering Lux won the Michael Leonard 5&6yo Championship at the Ballindenisk International at the weekend.

The winning six year old gelding, purchased recently by Henry Phipps, only joined Patrick about 3 months ago, and the Lux Z gelding, out of the Poltarf (USA), mare Garrendruig Sally (ISH), was produced up to then by Tina Browne.

Connections hold this “exciting young horse” in high regard, he may go to Grove at the weekend, he competes in showjumping at 120m level and over the winter he will move up to 1.30 level.

Patrick’s sister, Maria Byrne, took third place, with the home bred 6yo mare, BGS Ocean Mist (ISH), the grey mare is by BGS Ocean View (ISH), out of the Great Palm (USA) mare, BGS Grey Mist (ISH).

Patrick also took fifth place with Anchorman in the CIC2*, again owned by Henry Phipps, the 7yo gelding by Garrison Royal (ISH), out of Furistos Goddess (ISH), recently was fourth in the National Championships.

Paddy combines the horses with the GAA and the former inter county footballer will line out with Kilmore in the County Junior A hurling semi-final against Ballyhogue next weekend.
