Enniscorthy announced their arrival in Division 3 with a 3-2 win over UCD in their league opener at the Astro Active Centre on Saturday.
It was a nervous start for the hosts as the students took the lead after just 5 minutes. Enniscorthy were slow into their stride, we had to wait until the 17th minute as William Durnan earned a penalty corner. The students were quick to turn defence into attack and thanks to the strong defending of David Simmons the threat was dealt with. Shortly after this the Dubliners were down to 10 men; one of their players was given a green card, the Slaneysiders took full advantage as they scored their opening goal through Seb Rynhart. UCD re-stored their lead on the stroke of half time from a penalty corner.

Edmundas Liuikimas scored Enniscorthy’s opener on Saturday morning
The second half continued as the first had finished, chances fell to both sides. Ten minutes after the restart Enniscorthy drew level from a penalty corner converted by Edmundas Liuikimas. UCD were not deterred as they won a penalty corner themselves shortly after and forced captain Hill in goal to pull off a tremendous diving save for his side.
Hill denied the students what looked a certain goal as he deflected the ball onto the post to keep his goal intact. A break by Leo Durnan and Jacob English resulted in a penalty corner, and Doyle came agonisingly close to giving the home side the lead.
With seconds to go before the final whistle Doyle, stepped up to score the winning goal.
Enniscorthy travel to Dublin on Saturday as they take on Rathgar.
