Wexford Council support for two Presidential candidates

Businessman Sean Gallagher and Senator Joan Freeman have been nominated by Wexford councillors to be a candidate at the presidential election, but they will have to wait until next Monday’s meeting of Wexford County Council to see if they are seconded for a successful bid after addressing councillors today.
Sean Gallagher, who received 500,000 votes in the 2011 Presidential Election, was nominated by Independent Cllr Ger Carthy. In a changing Ireland, Gallagher aims “to be President Michael D. Higgins successor and to carry on the great work that he has done.”
Founder of Pieta House Joan Freeman campaigned on mental health issues and called for “compassion in a crowded place.” Cllr Paddy Kavanagh (Fine Gael) supported her nomination.
Sarah Louise Mulligan, who is Pro-Life and is “an admirer of President Trump” was articulate and bubbly as she addressed the assembled Wexfordians.
Artist Kevin Sharkey addressed the members of Wexford County Council at the July meeting where he stated his suitability for a term in the Aras.
Chairman Cllr Keith Doyle said that ‘Nomination of Person to be Candidate fror the Presidental Election” will be on the agenda for the September meeting of Wexford County Council, scheduled for Monday September 10th and only persons listed on the agenda will be eligible for nomination by Wexford County Council to be a candidate.
