Council Cathaoirleach mourns his mother

Wexford County Council held a special meeting in the Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy, today and passed a formal vote of sympathy to the Cathaoirleach, Cllr Keith Doyle, on the death of his mother, Mrs Eileen Doyle, who was laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery this afternoon.
Cllr Willie Fitzpatrick, Leas-Cathaoirleach, chaired the meeting.
Contributors from the floor came from Cllr Willie Kavanagh (Fianna Fail), Cllr George Lawlor (Labour), Cllr Paddy Kavanagh (Fine Gael), Cllr Johnny Mythen (Sinn Fein) and Cllr Tony Walsh (People Before Profit), Cllr John Fleming, (Cathaoirleach, New Ross Municipal District Council), and Cllr Davy Hynes (Independent).
Tom Enright (Chief Executive Officer) offered sympathies to Cllr Doyle on behalf of the Council officials, and he also extended sympathy to Cllr Oliver Walsh on the sudden death of his niece last weekend.
Minister Paul Kehoe, Deputy James Browne, former T.D. John Browne, past and serving councillors and past and serving officials of Wexford County Council attended the Funeral Mass in St. Aidan’s Cathedral where the chief celebrant was Rev. Odhran Furlong, Administrator.

Condolences have been expressed to the Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, Cllr Keith Doyle, on the death of his mother, Helen ‘Eileen’ Doyle, (nee Hamilton), which occurred peacefully and surrounded by her loving family at her residence, Ard na Greine, Scarawalsh, Enniscorthy, on Saturday.
Mrs Doyle is predeceased 25 years by her husband, Cllr Andy Doyle, who was Chairman of Wexford County Council in 1974, six times Chairman of Enniscorthy Urban District and was a Labour candidate in the General Elections as running mate to Wexford-man and former Tanaiste, the late Brendan Corish.

The strong political connection with the Doyle family continued when Cllr Keith followed in his fathers’ footsteps and has served as Chairman of the defunct Enniscorthy Urban Council, Enniscorthy Municipal District Council up to last June, and elected Cathaoirleach of the County Council for 2018-’19.
Mrs Doyle was a successful racehorse owner and had great times with Daring Run (born 1975), by Deep Run out of Kertina and bred by William Deacon, Belmont House, Clonroche.
Daring Run twice won the Aintree Hurdle (1981 and ’82) and finished third in the 1981 Cheltenham Champion Hurdle behind Sea Pigeon.
Devoted wife of the late Andy and loving mother of Andrew, Lucy, Sandra, Margaret, Thomas, Cllr Keith Doyle, Dolores-Anne and Evanna and sister of Mary, Sr. Kathleen and the late Jim. Sadly missed by her loving sons daughters, sisters, daughters-in-law Caroline and Marie, sons-in-law Dermot, Michael and Declan, grandchildren Aisling, Drew, Seana, Helen, Eoin and Aoife relatives and friends. Reposing at Browne’s Funeral Home, Enniscorthy, today, Sunday from 4 pm until 8 pm. Funeral arriving to St. Aidan’s Cathedral, Enniscorthy, on Monday for Funeral Mass at 12 noon with burial afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery. House private Monday morning please.
