More clerical changes this weekend

A number of clerical retirements or transfers within the Diocese of Ferns is taking place this weekend.
Fr Patrick Stafford, (75), Parish Priest of Glynn, retires, and Fr John Carroll, Diocesan Chancellor and curate at Barntown becomes Diocesan Chancellor and Parish Priest of Glynn.

FR. PATRICK STAFFORD retires after 24 years as parish priest of Glynn.

A native of Monageer, Fr Stafford was ordained in June 1966, and has served as parish priest of Glynn for the past 24 years – since his appointment in September 1994.
Glynn says farewell to its beloved parish priest of many years in the same week as the village post office faces closure. The local Garda Station closed some years ago.
Monsignor Don Kenny, Parish Priest of Ramsgrange, takes retirement on health grounds. Fr Brian Whelan, chaplaincy Irish Armed Forces becomes Administrator at Ramsgrange.
These changes take effect from Sunday, September 2nd.
In making the announcement in June, Bishop Denis Brennan stated that “due to continuing reduction in the number of active priests in the Diocese of Ferns, no parish can be guaranteed a replacement resident priest if or when the current priest is moved or retires. In this eventuality, the parish will be looked after pastorally and administratively from within a group of priests of that pastoral area.”
