As many as a thousand homes across Gorey are without a water supply tonight as the town experiences a series of disruptions to the supply and local residents are losing their patience with Irish Water.
The supply was interrupted yesterday due to a major water main burst at Pallis, on line feeding Creagh Water Treatment Plant, and water supply to areas to the west of Gorey town were particularly badly hit.
Areas affected included Carnew Road to the ’98 Monument on McCurtain St, Creagh housing estates, Newborough, Woodbury, Hollyfort Road, Cluainin, Coislinne, Eire Street, Arklow Road and Clonattin Road.
During repair works the water supply was diverted from Barnadown Water Treatment Plant, but it still left 30% of areas without water.

Flooding on the Fort Road in Gorey today after a burst mains caused more disruption to the town’s water supply.

When yesterday’s problems were fixed a bust main on Fort Road, close to the Showgrounds, threw the whole system into chaos and the worst affected areas now appear to be the Clonattin estates and the Arklow Road areas.
A water tanker located near Naomh Eanna GAA Park will provide emergency supplies of water between 10 am and 5 pm on Saturday. It is hoped that a second tanker may be available in the area of Ford Road, but certainty could not be confirmed tonight.
It may be late afternoon tomorrow before normal service is resumed to householders in the town.
