Passenger airlifted from cruise ship

ROSSLARE HARBOUR RNLI Lifeboat

A passenger aboard the cruise ship ‘Celebrity Eclipse’ bound for Cork and sailing off the coast of south Wexford has been airlifted to a Dublin hospital following a heart attack.
Assistance was sought from Rosslare Harbour RNLI Lifeboat who launched at 4.15 am and headed for the ship about 5km south of the Saltee Islands.
The lifeboat crew consisted of E. O’Rourke (coxswain), M. Nicholas (mechanic) and crew members A. Sheil, K. Morris, D. McCuskar, A. Kavanagh and I. Kavanagh.
The man was treated on the cruise ship and subsequently airlifted by Rescue 117 and taken to hospital.

UPDATE ON THIS STORY 11.30 pm

Wexford Today.com has been informed that the sick passenger reached hospital successfully and his condition has been described as “comfortable and making progress.” He was accompanied by his wife and grateful thanks is expressed to the emergency services in the south-east who acted swiftly and professionally.
