After over 50 days of drought the heavens opened and the sixth race at Bettyville Park was run in a downpour and the ground conditions were changed to ‘soft’ but nobody was complaining as rain was badly wanted and the largest crowd this season retreated to the stands, bars and covered enclosures.

Jockey Patrick Mullins is covered in mud after winning the bumper on Shush at Wexford.
There was one Wexford trained winner, Paul Nolan’s Lady of the Sea, (7/1) by two and a quarter lengths in the Maggie May’s Pub Handicap Hurdle over three miles.
Speaking after the win, Paul’s brother and assistant trainer, James Nolan said; “Sure she was lucky. She had hit the crossbar a bit, and sure we’ll take the lucky ones. Bryan (Cooper) rode her to be placed and I think that’s the way it suits her to be ridden. She doesn’t really travel, she was on it and off it, and that’s her. She got her day and she’ll probably go for something similar now in a few week’s time.”
A six years old filly by Blueberry Bramble out of Pistiolet Bleu, Lady of the Sea is owned and bred by Jim Mernagh, Coolamurray Stud, Davidstown, Enniscorthy.
The feature race was the €15,000 Adare Manor Opportunity Chase and it went to Show And Go, (8/1), trained in Waterford by Henry de Bromhead and ridden by Dylan Robinson.
Wille Mullins didn’t make the trip to Wexford to see his son, Patrick, win the bumper by six and a half lengths on the even money favourite Shush.
“The hardest part was trying to see where I was going,” said the winning rider, who came back mud spattered after heavy rain.
The Tote aggregate was €76,116 compared with last year’s figure of €111,990.83. Three lucky punters found the jackpot combination and each left the track €1,166.60 the richer.
The next races at Bettyville Park will take place on Saturday, September 8th.
