
Courtown RNLI Lifeboat Station
Members of Courtown RNLI Volunteer crew were on a regular training exercise on Tuesday evening when requested to respond to a call involving an injured fisherman on board the trawler ‘Western Dawn’ six miles off shore.
Helm Fergus Slevin accompanied by crew members Tom Dalton and Cormac Kinsella left Courtown Harbour at 19.55 and arrived at the 12mt trawler at 20.23.
The casualty had damaged his fingers and hand and needed to be evacuated for medical treatment.
RNLI Volunteer crew members returned him to shore at 20.40 to a waiting ambulance.
In other news, Friday’s Six One News will come direct from Courtown Harbour and presenter Catriona Perry will meet with RNLI members and interview volunteer crew members who took part in a serious rescue last summer.
In a summer which has brought unprecedented weather, the volunteers at Courtown RNLI Lifeboat Station want to remind people to stay safe and respect the water!
The August Bank Holiday is approaching and the RTE News broadcast will highlight how to educate and inform to prevent injuries and accidents at sea.
