Wexford schools receive grants for new subjects

The Department of Education is providing grants to post-primary schools to support roll-out of new Leaving Certificate subjects this September, and there is good news for some Wexford schools.
Computer Science and Physical Education will be on the curriculum for the Leaving Certificate for the first time.

Minister Michael D’Arcy said; “I am delighted that Creagh College, Gorey is taking part in the roll out of new Leaving Cert subjects. “Education is vitally important and needs to keep pace with the changing needs of our society.”
Creagh College, Gorey and St Marys’ CBS, Enniscorthy will receive €3,000 each for Computer Science rollout.
Coláiste Bride in Enniscorthy, St Mary’s Secondary School in Irishtown, New Ross, Creagh College in Gorey as well as Presentation Secondary School in Wexford will see PE rolled out for Leaving Cert students.
And Computer Science will be introduced as a Leaving Cert subject in two schools: St Mary’s CBS in Enniscorthy and Creagh College in Gorey.
These are part of a bundle of 64 schools nationwide.
Minister Paul Kehoe has also welcomed today’s announcement. “The introduction of Computer Science as a Leaving Certificate subject is part of our ambition to make Ireland a STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) leader among our European colleagues,” he said.
