“Government needs to sort out payment to Wexford sub-contractors and get this school built,” That is the view of Sinn Fein General Election candidate, Cllr Johnny Mythen.
Cllr Mythen stated that the Government need to “sort out payment to local sub-contractors as soon as possible so that the Loreto School in Wexford town can be open before September.”
Sub-contractors have placed pickets on the new Loreto school building in Wexford town this week.
He was speaking as fellow Sinn Féin councillors attended the picket line to show their support to the 15 sub-contractors who are outside Loreto Secondary School in Wexford.

RICHARD BRUTON T.D. Minister for Education and Skills.
“We have local workers and small enterprises – scaffolders, landscapers, painters and decorators and carpenters who did the work on the Loreto School but were never paid. They are owed a lot of money and the government needs to sort this out now so that then Loreto can open before September.
The main contractor Sammon Construction has been paid for the work but has gone into liquidation leaving sub-contractors on the Wexford project owed about €13 million.
Speaking on the matter, the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, said: “This is a real problem and we recognise that. From the state’s point of view our obligation is to meet the payments to DIF when they complete the school. But as in any liquidation, the State cannot pick up private debts.”
