Wexford’s performance on Saturday evening could be easily summed up, job done, but needs to improve.

Davy’s charges lined out in Mullingar and dispensed with Westmeath on a scoreline of 2-21 to 0-16; an eleven point victory, three years ago they won by eight points, one has to ask the question has this Wexford team improved as much as people think? Well, that question, may well be answered next weekend, an All-Ireland quarter final against Clare- the championship is only about to start.

Following the game Westmeath’s manager, Michael Ryan, stepped down after four seasons in charge.

David Dunne started the game, the Davidstown- Courtnacuddy player scored the only goal of the first half to leave the home side trailing 1-12 to 0-08 at the break.

Conor McDonald scored a fantastic goal in the 46^th minute to increase the Wexford lead to 8 points, it looked as if they would push on for an easy victory, but Westmeath never gave up and battled all the way.
