Come home to Camolin this weekend

Main St., Camolin, will be central to the Homecoming Festival weekend.

There is no doubt that the top festival in Co. Wexford this weekend is the original and popular Camolin Homecoming which covers three days of events, history, entertainment and comraderie.
The programme sets the scene at 7 pm today (Friday) with Bishop Denis Brennan celebrating Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception and officially launching the weekend activities. This will be followed by Camolin National School Past Pupils reunion in the parish hall.

“We want to bring people from Camolin together in celebration. Whether they be in Australia, America, the UK or in Ferns or Craanford, we invite them to our reunion,” the local parish priest, Fr Joe Kavanagh told WexfordToday.com.
There is an emphasis on the 220th anniversary of the 1798 Rebellion with considerable interest in the unveiling of a new monument in the village centre on Saturday at 3 pm in the presence of the Enniscorthy 1798 Re-enactment Group.
There is also a 1798 bus tour heading for local places associated with the historic rebellion such as the former home of Lieutenant Bookey, the Fr Murphy Centre at Boolavogue, other 1798 battle sites and Ballymore Historic Features.
There is also the unveiling of a plaque to the memory of Michael O’Loughlin, Hero of a Sea Disaster.
There are entertaining events for children and adults also. Note the Kids Novelty Sports Day on Saturday and the Medieval Fair display of armoury, medieval coin making, cooking, archery and various crafts on Sunday.
The local drama group are going on stage in Camolin Hall with ‘The Tinker’s Wedding by John Milington Synge and produced by Jimmy Kavanagh and ‘seisiún’ featuring the Celtic Roots group from Bree are also in action.
It all happens for all the family in Camolin this weekend…be there or be disappointed!
