Deputy Mayor of Wexford Cllr. George Lawlor has expressed sympathy to the people of Annapolis, Maryland, following the gun attack yesterday that has left at least five people dead and others seriously injured.
Wexford Town has had a ‘Sister City’ relationship with the Maryland State Capital for over 30 years and many visiting delegations have travelled back and forth to both towns.
The relationship was originally fostered to highlight the role of Commodore John Barry, the first Commissioned Officer of the United States Navy, and a native of Ballysampson in south Wexford.

CLLR GEORGE LAWLOR, Deputy Mayor of Wexford.
Cllr Lawlor said;” From our experience of the beautiful peaceful surroundings of Annapolis this attack has come in a shocking manner. The people of this magnificent sailing capital are some of the most welcoming in America and an attack such as this is totally anathema to the Wexford experience of visiting our friends on the shores of Chesapeake Bay.
“I’m sure I share the views of the people of Wexford and beyond in sending sympathy and solidarity to our friends in Maryland as they struggle to come to terms with this horrific event. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.”
