Gorey’s Niall ‘Basil’ Kennedy in actioni in the boxing ring.
Gorey’s Niall ‘Basil’ Kennedy endured a tough battle against Joel Caudle in New Hampshire, United States, on Murphy’s Boxing Card, on Saturday night.
One judge scored 76-74 in favour of Kennedy and a second and third judge gave a 76-76 verdict and the announcer called it “a majority draw.”
Afterwards he tweeted on his own account; “Tough fight and definately not my best performance, but I live to fight another day and will learn from this.”
Although Kennedy was originally meant to be fighting a relatively stronger opponent in Mexico’s Chrisitan Mariscal, the Gorey-born Wicklow based Garda was confident to off his opponent with class and style.
Ahead of the fight, the man from Willow Park said; “I’m excited about this fight because I feel good, I’ve sparred well, my fitness is insane at the minute. It’s all about me impressing against this lad Caudle – I’m not looking past him, I just want to do it well.”
By the end of 2018, Kennedy hopes to be ranked in the World’s Top 20 – and a victory in tonight’s fight will be a stepping stone to reach that target.
