Better B Quick (20/1) is shock local winner

JJ SLEVIN had another winner at his local track this evening.

A local winner at Wexford this evening was Better B Quick in the three mile one furlong handicap chase but it was a shock result at 20/1 for the delighted owners, Michael and Ashleigh Murphy from Duncormick, who are well-known for success on the point-to-point circuit.
Trained by Richard O’Keeffe from Taghmon, who is also better known on the point-to-point scene was recording his first racecourse success since July 2007 and JJ Slevin, Caim, was on board 12 year old.

JJ SLEVIN had another winner at his local track this evening.

“He did it well. The ground was too soft for him on his last couple of runs, so we said we’d keep him for a chase on the track. He loves that ground, that’s his ground,” said the winning trainer afterwards.
Cantkidakidder, ridden by James O’Sullivan, and trained at Courtnacuddy by Noel Dooly, looked to be travelling best in the lead turning for home but had to settle for the runner-up spot by one length.
There was plenty of drama in the opening novice hurdle and Commander Won and Camolin jockey, James O’Sullivan, had an eventful time. Firstly, the six year old reared up in the parade ring and managed to topple over throwing O’Sullivan to the ground, but after a quick check by the doctor, the partnership got away and headed the field for most of the extended two mile trip.
The Willie Mullins trained Exchange Rate, (8/11 fav.) with Paul Townend up, came to challenge Commander Won after the second last, and there wasn’t much room for Exchange Rate on the inner, however, the favourite got there by a length.
Commander Won finished second, but after a steward’s enquiry, was subsequently disqualified from second and his rider James O’Sullivan was found guilty of dangerous riding. He was handed a 14 day ban.
Willie Mullins who won his 3,000th race at Wexford two weeks ago and was making the headlines at Royal Ascot this week, recorded a double when his son, Patrick Mullins, scored on Sweet Flight, (7/4 in the bumper.
Andrew Lynch won the maiden hurdle on Pallaskenry (7/4) for Waterford trainer Henry de Bromhead and Monaghan trainer, Anthony McCann, won the handicap hurdle with Konig Hall, (9/2 fav.) to give jockey Paul Townend a double.
De Bromhead also had a double when Ornua, (13/8 fav.) lead from start to finish and won by four and a half lengths in the beginners chase with Dylan Robinson up. Ornua held off the challenge of Cotton Jenny trained in Kilmore by Brian Jordan.
A dozen competed in the handicap chase and another shock winner in Kilgarner Queen, (20/1), by a length with Jonathan Burke riding for Cloyne, Co. Cork, trainer Denise O’Shea.
It was a perfect evening for racing and the next fixture at Bettyville Park will take place on Friday, July 6th.
