Olivia Forrestal’s, Hearsabouts (ISH), won the Colts/Geldings section of the 3yo Loose Performance Qualifier at the Warrington Equestrian Centre on Monday evening. The winning gelding was bred by James Brennan, Ballyleague, New Ross.
The chestnut son of Silvano (KWPN) out of Ciara’s Molly (ISH) by Puissance (ISH) will be one of only 10 competitors to contest the final of the class at this year’s Dublin Horse Show.
Olivia also took the reserve position with Corraghoe Brilliant, a bay gelding by Tolan R (KWPN) out of Corraghoe Dreamer (ISH) by Lux Z (HANN) and bred by Patrick Smith, County Cavan.
The winning Silvano gelding was actually purchased from Done Deal, she originally saw him at a foal sale, but thought he was too big, luckily enough she spotted him on an advert 3 months later, went to see him and in her own words, “I just couldn’t walk away a second time, I was smitten with his movement.” He was only about 4 miles away; which is why he’s called Hereabouts”.
Olivia combines her sport horse business with a part-time job as a veterinary nurse at a local practice, she generally keeps about twelve horse at her Tinnock Stables, near Campile.
She has been involved in horses all her life, began riding at three years of age, has showjumped to 1.40m level with a mare called Laughtons Lass, rode yearlings at Kildangan, and even rode in bumpers on the track.
In 2008 after a neck injury she went to back to college and qualified as a veterinary nurse, and now combines sourcing young stock, mostly selling them as 3yos. Last year she sold Toledo R, one of the top lots at the Go For Gold sale.
She has only sold a handful of horses, Capital T has gone 2* /intermediate, a homebred, out of Where’s Juliette, Game Changer, Burley and Osberton finalist, and MBF Harley Rebel, Osberton finalist.
Thomas Quigley, Carlow, prepared both horses for the qualifier, and there is a strong family connection, Olivia has known the Quigley’s since she was ten years of age, and she also worked for Thomas’ dad, Austin.
Breeding looks like playing a big part in the business in the future, there are now three broodmares on the farm, and she recently sourced a well bred Irish mare from a friend in the UK.
Another Wexford owned horse, Dreamish Hollie, owned by Katrina O’Connor, Barntown, took the reserve spot in the fillies section.
