Wexford keeper scores and takes Twitter by storm

Ivan Meegan's point is taking Twitter by storm

Wexford’s U20 goalkeeper, Ivan Meegan, scored a fantastic point from play in today’s EirGrid game against Dublin.

The 19yo, from Ferns, scored another 3 points from frees in the game, including one brilliant strike from 64 yards, as well as making a few brilliant saves during the match to deny the Dubs.

The video of the score has been uploaded to Twitter, its taking the web by storm and in the first hour its had over 6,000 views.

He prefers to play outfield, but ended up playing in goal almost by accident. He plays soccer with Ferns Utd, and when Conor Swaine left the club, they had no keeper, so Ivan volunteered to go between the posts as he could’nt get a game outfield.

He was part of the Wexford senior football panel earlier in the year, but alas, his shooting skills were not identified, and he left the scene, he joined Brendan Kehoe’s U20 setup as the goalkeeper, and was promised the free taking duties.

Accurate from the dead ball, as well as kicking from his hands, he may well get a place as an outfield player in the not too distant future.
